A body was found Monday morning on the campus of Emporia State University, a school official said.

ESU police responded shortly after 7 a.m. to a report of a “suspicious person/possible medical emergency” in the tunnel that runs underneath Interstate 35 on the north end of the campus in Emporia, university spokesperson Gwen Larson said.

Campus police, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office and Emporia Fire/EMS found an unattended death. Foul play is not a factor in the investigation, according to Larson.

Campus police are investigating the death and the gender and identity of the deceased was not released.

ESU is a four-year public college with an enrollment of 4,650, about 90 miles northeast of Wichita.
