Overland Park was recently named one of the best places to live and to raise a family in the United States by different national rankings, and now a new national ranking places the city among the best places to buy a home.

Niche, a data website that compares schools, cities and more on factors like their affordability, safety and amenities says the Johnson County suburb is the second best city in the country to buy a house.

The website bases its rankings on data collected from the U.S. Census and the Federal Bureau of Investigation, looking at home values, property taxes, home ownership rates, housing costs and real estate trends.

On housing, Overland Park received an A- from Niche. The city has an A+ overall grade.

The median home value in Overland Park is $361,800, higher than the national median of $281,900, according to Niche. The median rent is $1,378, higher than the national median of $1,268. According to Niche’s data, 62% of residents own a home in the city.

“Living in Overland Park offers residents a dense suburban feel and most residents own their homes,” the website says in its description.

Overland Park received an A+ for its public schools, a B- for its cost of living and a B+ for the commute to work residents face.

Just beating out Overland Park for the best city to buy a home in the United States is The Woodlands, Texas. Naperville, Illinois; Huntsville, Alabama; and Rochester, Minnesota, round out the top five.

Kansas City ranks as the 38th best city to buy a home in the United States, Niche’s data says.

Niche also ranks Overland Park as the seventh-best city to raise a family and the eight-best city to live in the United States.
