Man dies, woman injured after train hits car crossing railroad tracks in Kansas

A man died and a woman was seriously injured Wednesday after a train struck a car that was crossing railroad tracks in south-central Kansas.

The man was identified as 28-year-old Christian Norris of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The incident was reported around 8:30 p.m. along U.S. 54 at 11th Avenue in Kiowa County. Norris was the passenger in a 2018 Mercedes C300 that was northbound on 11th Avenue when it crossed railroad tracks and was struck by a train, according to the report.

Norris was taken to Kiowa County Memorial Hospital, where he died from his injuries. The driver, 54-year-old Angela Carroll of Chandler, Oklahoma, was taken to the same hospital with suspected serious injuries, the log said.

The report shows a juvenile was in the car at the time of the crash. KHP would not provide any information about that person’s age and condition.
