Kansas man, 26, dies after collision between car and truck on Saturday

A Kansas man died after a crash involving a car and truck Saturday evening in northeast Kansas.

The victim was identified as 26-year-old Brandon Bumgarner of Topeka, Kansas Highway Patrol crash logs show.

The crash was reported around 5:20 p.m. along westbound U.S. 24 at Huxman Road in Shawnee County. Bumgarner was driving south on Huxman Road in a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis, the report read.

The other driver involved, 60-year-old James Haug of Topeka, was westbound on U.S. 24 in a 2001 Chevy Silverado. The crash happened when Bumgarner did not clear a stop sign properly and failed to see the Silverado. Haug struck the Grand Marquis on its driver side door, the crash log said.

The Grand Marquis came to rest in a ditch while the Silverado stopped on U.S. 24.

Bumgarner died at the scene. His passenger, 26-year-old Brendan Bumgarner of Topeka, was taken to Stormont Vail hospital in Topeka with minor injuries, the report said.

Haug and his passenger, 64-year-old Denise Hilmes of Topeka, were not injured in the crash, the report added.
