Pratt man dies in Pawnee County crash

A Pratt man is dead and two others were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash Wednesday in Pawnee County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

Michael E. Heim, 38, was prnounced dead shortly after the pickup he was driving was struck head-on by a semi on K-156 about 20 miles west of Larned, according to a highway patrol crash report. The crash was reported just after 7 a.m. on Wednesday.

According to the crash report, a 2006 Mercury driven by a 16-year-old Burdett boy crossed the center line while traveling westbound on K-156. The Mercury struck an eastbound semi being driven by an Iowa man, causing the semi to cross the center line and strike the westbound 2014 Ford pickup driven by Heim.

The semi, the report said, came to rest in a ditch on its top with the cab removed from the frame of the vehicle. The 16-year-old was taken to Pawnee Calley Community Hospital.

The driver of the semi was transported to Wesley Medical Center.
