Who gave money to candidates? Search donations in the Sedgwick Co. Commission races
Curious which individuals, businesses and other organizations are funneling cash into the Sedgwick County Commission races this year?
You can search contributions made to candidates up for election in Districts 2 and 3 using The Wichita Eagle’s interactive campaign finance database, which appears below. The database includes all fundraising reported for Tuesday’s primary election. The District 3 race is the only competitive primary for a commission seat.
Donor information was compiled from expenditure reports filed with the Sedgwick County Election Office. The reports include those filed on Jan. 10 and July 29.
District 2 Commissioner Sarah Lopez, a Democrat, will defend her seat against former Wichita City Council member Jeff Blubaugh, a Republican, in November. Because Lopez and Blubaugh were the only candidates in their respective parties to file, they automatically secured their parties’ nominations.
District 2 covers the south-central portion of the county.
In District 3, Democrats AlmaAnn Jones and Celeste Racette and Republicans Alan Reichert, Greg Ferris and Stephanie Wise are vying for their parties’ nominations to replace David Dennis, who is retiring. Jones is an advocate for trauma survivors and a criminal justice reform activist, and Racette is a local Save Century II activist and former bank-fraud investigator. Reichert is a senior financial analyst at Spirit AeroSystems, Ferris is a former Wichita City Council member and a City Hall lobbyist, and Wise is a commercial real estate broker.
District 3 is largely rural and includes much of west Wichita, as well as Andale, Bentley, Cheney, Colwich, Garden Plain, Goddard, Mount Hope and Viola.
Commissioners are paid a base salary of $101,527 a year and are responsible for setting policy direction and approving a budget for vital services, such as EMS, 911, Comcare, corrections and the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office. They also oversee Fire District 1 and serve as the board of health, the board of canvassers of elections, and the hearing panel on tax appeals.
