If you plan to vote in the Kansas primary election, time is running out to register to vote.

The deadline to register to vote in the Aug. 4 primary election — or to update your name or address on your existing voter registration — is Tuesday, July 14.

Ballots will vary depending on your party registration and address, but may include a variety of local, state and federal races, along with a constitutional amendment that will determine if Kansans elect state supreme court justices or if the current nominating commission system remains.

Some of the most hotly contested races include partisan primaries for governor and seats in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives.

A statewide list of candidates can be found at the Kansas Secretary of State website. Kansas counties, including Sedgwick County, also provide a list of offices and candidates running for election.

Here’s what to know before you head to the polls to vote.

Kansas voter registration deadlines

The deadline to register to vote or update your registration for the 2026 Kansas primary election is Tuesday, July 14.

The 2026 general election voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 13.

To register to vote in Kansas, you must be a U.S. citizen, a resident of the state and at least 18 years old by election day. You also must have completed any sentencing terms following a felony conviction, if applicable.

You may register to vote online at votekansas.gov, or by sending in a completed paper form that is postmarked before the deadline.

When you register to vote, you’ll be asked if you want to affiliate with one of the political parties recognized in Kansas: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian or United Kansas. You may also remain unaffiliated.

All information you provide when registering to vote, except for your driver’s license number and the last four digits of your Social Security number, become public record.

Updating an existing voter registration in Kansas

Kansans can double-check if they are registered by visiting kansasvoterinfo.gov. This is also where registered voters can confirm their address, party association, mail-in ballot status and polling place location.

If you are already registered to vote but need to make a change to your name or address, you’ll need to update your voter registration. The deadline to change your party affiliation for the primary election was June 1.

In Kansas, voters should update their registration by completing a new voter registration form. This must be done by the election deadline.
