Here are 3 detour routes for getting around the Amidon bridge during construction

If the city opts to fully close the aging Amidon Avenue Bridge during replacement, Wichita commuters will have to get creative to navigate the area’s winding river geography.

Here are three potential detour routes for getting from 13th and McLean (which turns into Amidon) to 21st and Amidon in lieu of the bridge. All three detour options take at least four minutes longer on average than driving from 13th to 21st over the bridge (1:45), The Eagle found.

West Street: The fastest detour route (5:55) is to drive west and turn right onto West Street at Dillons, traveling north alongside the Northwest Big River neighborhood before cutting back east at 21st to cross the river.

Broadway: Another option is to drive east on 13th, turn left on Broadway and follow it to 21st, narrowly avoiding the train tracks to the east before crossing the Little Arkansas River to reach the busy intersection (10:00).

Waco: A second eastbound option, not listed in city planning documents, is to turn left at Waco just past North High School (7:50), a route that cuts through largely residential neighborhoods.
