Is your emergency contact up for the job? TikTok trend has some questioning choices
There was once a time when being an emergency contact was sacred, only to be given to those who you really trust.
But now, a new TikTok trend is revealing that some people with the badge of honor have some questionable behavior, to say the least.
TikTok users are taking to the platform to showcase their significant others and the “green flag” behavior that landed them the honorary “emergency contact” position.
But, some users are perplexed that they’d dethrone their parents and award the job to their significant other instead.
“Realizing I changed my emergency contact from the woman who knows everything to this man,” user @Britlomb said in a Feb. 2 TikTok.
The video shows her “emergency contact” playing a riveting game of mermaids, pretending to have a tail and flapping around in a pool. The video has been seen over 353,000 times as of Feb. 7.
User @Allimaxfield took to the app to share her emergency contact and let everyone know “he’s now responsible for” their baby too, according to the Feb. 2 video.
The “golden retriever reincarnated” man can be seen playing an intense match of badminton … with himself.
“So you mean to tell me I changed my emergency contact from a perfectly capable woman who raised six kids to this man?” the user wrote on the video that’s been seen over 1.3 million times as of Feb. 7.
Users were in agreement that the man seemed “pretty capable” with one person saying, “at least you know he’ll get there fast.”
“And he’s already preparing for being solo after the emergency,” another wrote.
Other “legends” were showcased, including the likes of the man depicted in a video posted by @Gracee_Tayylor on Feb. 4.
The video seen over 3.3 million times shows a man holding crackers before he begins to stack a tower of them on top of a sleeping baby’s forehead.
Again, users didn’t seem to find a problem with the encounter, with one user commenting, “Seems qualified to me! That’s attention to detail!”
“Im actually impressed he balanced that many tbh,” another wrote.
As for some emergency contacts, “fish hate to see (them coming),” according to a video posted by user @Carmenltran.
“Realizing that this man is my emergency contact,” the user wrote when sharing a video of a man snorkeling with flippers.
The underwater explorer can be seen trekking through the sand, almost tripping over his fins, before embarking on his ocean expedition. The video has over 7.6 million views.
Some users took to the comments to defend the deep sea diver with one person saying, “Leave him alone, bro is on a mission.”
“He’s just enjoying his life hahaha,” another wrote.
“Look how happy he is,” one wrote.
As for others, they made it known the user needed to get “a backup emergency contact,” with one person saying, “Girl he’s the emergency.”
As for what all these users should remember about their emergency contact?
One commenter summed it up, saying, “enjoy it, they grow up so fast.”
