A dog raced home for help after its owner was struck by a hit-and-run driver in Washington, police said.

The man was walking his dog after 9 p.m. Jan. 24 in the 5100 block of Talbot Road South, the Renton Police Department said in a Facebook post.

Then suddenly a crossover SUV, “possibly a Kia or Hyundai with newer-style bright headlights,” struck the man and his dog, police said.

The dark gray or silver vehicle fled the scene and was last seen driving onto northbound State Route 167 at South 43rd Street, police said.

The man’s dog ran back to his home “and alerted others that something was wrong,” police said.

Police said the man was in serious condition.

Now, authorities are looking for information regarding the vehicle involved in the hit-and-run.

Anyone living in the area can check their surveillance footage to help police find the SUV and the driver.

Detective Lane can be contacted at klane@rentonwa.gov. Reference case 25-791.

Renton is about a 10-mile drive southeast from Seattle.
