Amtrak train derailed in Missouri
An Amtrak train traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago with more than 200 passengers onboard derailed Monday afternoon after it struck a dump truck at a crossing in northern Missouri.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas responded on Twitter Monday afternoon to news that an Amtrak crash a few hours northeast of KC killed three people and injured dozens.
“This is what we feared,” Lucas wrote. “My condolences to all those impacted and prayers to all those injured today.”
Several cars of the train traveling from Los Angeles to Chicago derailed southwest of Mendon, Missouri, after striking a dump truck. Two people on the train and one person in the truck were killed. Mendon is about 100 miles northeast of Kansas City.
“Having relied on Amtrak to cross our state throughout my college years and long after, I remember the ride well,” said Lucas, who attended Washington University in St. Louis. “My heart goes out to the passengers and all impacted by today’s event and I extend my thanks to those responding to today’s derailment on the scene and at the hospital.”
