‘He always did his best’: Wichita trucker remembered as caring father
A Wichita truck driver who died in a crash in Pratt County on July 4 is being remembered by loved ones as a caring father.
James Glover Jr. was driving east on U.S. 54 near Cullison just before 5:30 a.m. when the semi he was driving collided with another semi, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The driver of the other semi wasn’t hurt. Glover suffered fatal injuries, the highway patrol said.
Glover’s son, James R.S. Glover, said he learned of his father’s death when a state trooper came to the door at his Arkansas home the morning of the crash.
“I’m still processing it,” said Glover, 28. “He was a trucker for about 35 years and I know he always did his best to be a good father.”
Cheril Emerson, Glover’s ex-wife, said they had remained friends after splitting up years ago. Emerson also lives in Arkansas.
“He was a good person,” Emerson said. “He wasn’t perfect, but he was a good person. He was always there for me, even when nobody else was.”
Emerson said Glover’s employer, Elite Transportation in Wichita, has promised to pay for cremation expenses.
“That was a big relief,” Emerson said. “He was a good dad to my son, James, and I’ll remember that.”
