E-mail threat prompts extra security at Wichita West High
West High School in Wichita had additional security on hand Friday afternoon after a threat was made via e-mail to several teachers, district officials said.
“We immediately involved law enforcement and district security, and they believe the emails to be a hoax,” said Joel Hudson, West High principal, in an e-mail to parents Friday.
“In the interest of student safety, as officials continued their investigation we implemented several extra security measures this afternoon. Those will continue for the remainder of the day,” the e-mail said.
Evening events will go on as scheduled, including a basketball game and dance, Hudson said in the e-mail. “You and your students should expect to see additional security while here at school for these activities.”
Threats have been reported at Wichita-area high schools multiple times this school year, including Southeast High School, South High School and Maize High School.
