Three suspects charged with murder in connection with Mossman homicides
Three men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the shooting deaths of two people outside a house near Ninth and Grove last week, and police said Wednesday they are searching for a fourth suspect.
Jonathan Carter, Brent Carter and Jamion Wimbley all made first appearances in the case in a Sedgwick County courtroom on Wednesday.
Brent Carter, 24, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of criminal discharge of a firearm and one count of criminal use of a weapon.
Jonathan Carter, 19, who police say is not related to Brent Carter, was charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of criminal discharge of a firearm and one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
Jamion Wimbley, 19, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, one count of criminal discharge of a firearm and one count of criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
The three were charged in connection with the deaths of Betty Ann Holloman, 55, and Brenton Oliver, 24, who were gunned down on Dec. 1 in the front yard of Holloman’s house in the 2500 block of East Mossman in what police have described as a gang-related shooting.
Wimbley and Brent Carter were arrested on Friday.
According to jail records, Jonathan Carter was arrested just after 11 a.m. on Tuesday and was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail.
Each of the three is being held in the Sedgwick County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Each is set for a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Dec. 23.
Holloman, who police have said was not involved in gang activity, and Oliver were the 29th and 30th homicide victims in Wichita so far this year. The day after the shootings, police announced they were looking for three known suspects.
A 17-year-old West High student was shot and critically injured by a Wichita police officer Friday night as authorities searched for the third suspect, though police later said neither the teen nor the three people he was with are connected with the shootings.
The teen remains hospitalized at Via Christi Hospital St. Francis but is expected to recover, Wichita police Lt. Todd Ojile said.
