Police are seeking help from the public as they investigate a shooting on Sunday.

A 51-year-old woman was shot shortly after 12:15 p.m. when she answered a knock on the front door of a house in the 1000 block of South Pattie, Capt. Doug Nolte said. That’s northeast of Washington and Lincoln.

A man and a woman were at the front door when the victim opened it, Nolte said.

“Right inside the residence or on the porch, there was an argument,” Nolte said.

Witnesses in the house heard one gunshot, he said. The victim was shot in the chest. She was taken to a hospital and underwent surgery.

She is expected to make a full recovery, Nolte said. Based on limited information she gave police prior to surgery, the victim appears to know the woman who came to her door.

They’re hoping to talk to the victim more once she’s had more time to recover, Nolte said. Investigators talked to several neighbors, who heard the gunfire but did not see anything.

“We’re not sure why this occurred when it did,” Nolte said.

Anyone with information about the incident can call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

Anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers can also be submitted at www.WichitaCrimeStoppers.com or from a mobile phone by texting TIP217, then the message, to CRIMES (274637).
