A 38-year-old west Wichita man suffered two stab wounds in his abdomen Monday morning when an unknown suspect attacked him at his front door, police said.

The resident, who lives on West 20th Street near 119th Street West, was taken to Via Christi St. Francis in critical condition but was expected to survive, police Sgt. Troy Nedbalek said.

Nedbalek gave this account: About 10:30 a.m., the 911 system received a call from the man’s middle-school-age son that his father had been stabbed by an unknown suspect. The father had heard something at the front door, opened it and was stabbed twice in the stomach by an “unknown younger male” with a suspect behind him.

EMS took the man in critical condition to the hospital, where he was being treated in the surgery unit, Nedbalek said. The victim was able to walk onto the porch and get onto a gurney, and his wounds appeared to be survivable, Nedbalek said.

The victim wasn’t able to tell police much and said he didn’t recognize the suspects, Nedbalek said.

Nedbalek described the suspects as two younger males, one wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt.

Neighbors didn’t report seeing anything, he said.
