Police identify, arrest man in bicycle attack on woman (+video)
A 59-year-old man has been arrested in connection with an attack in downtown Wichita earlier this month that seriously injured a 32-year-old woman.
Anthony Riggs was arrested on suspicion of aggravated battery shortly after 3:15 p.m. on Thursday on 19th Street, according to arrest and jail records. Police say he’s linked to an attack on the woman in the 600 block of East Douglas on Oct. 6.
The victim told police that the suspect, riding a bicycle, yelled an obscenity at her, then approached and struck her, police said. She suffered “a pretty serious head injury,” Wichita police Lt. James Espinoza said at the time.
The victim, who remains hospitalized, did not know the suspect, according to Espinoza, and police are still investigating possible motives.
Police were able to identify the suspect with the help of tips from Crime Stoppers and security footage of the man and the bicycle used in the attack.
“It was good police work and good community involvement recognizing this person,” Espinoza said.
The case will be presented to the District Attorney’s Office on Monday, Espinoza said, and the DA will make a decision on whether to bring charges.
