Arrest made in June homicide in Reno County

A 27-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with a homicide in Reno County in June, authorities said.

Jammie Hatfield of Hutchinson was booked into the Reno County Correctional Facility on suspicion of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit first-degree murder in the death of Mary Ann Arnett of Hutchinson, Reno County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Lutz said in a prepared statement.

Arnett, 38, was found dead in a shallow creek south of Nickerson on June 22. Hatfield’s bond was set at $500,000, Lutz said.

The arrest is the culmination of an ongoing investigation involving the sheriff’s office and the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Lutz said. The case will be presented to the Reno County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine what — if any — charges will be filed.

The case remains under investigation, Lutz said, with additional interviews planned.
