Man sold meth to undercover Wichita police officer. He’s going to federal prison
A Wichita man was sentenced earlier this month to 10 years in federal prison for selling methamphetamine to an undercover police officer in 2021.
Wayne F. Fleming, 41, pleaded guilty in December to one count of distribution of a controlled substance.
A news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas says Fleming sold drugs several times to a Wichita police officer who was working undercover in May 2021.
“Testing by the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center showed the total amount Fleming sold to the officer to be more than 200 grams of pure methamphetamine,” the release says. That’s about seven ounces.
Fleming’s plea and sentence come on the heels of his release from state prison in unrelated drug possession and offender registration violation cases, Kansas Department of Corrections records show.
He had been residing at a sober living house, working at a downtown restaurant and regularly attending narcotics and alcohol anonymous meetings ahead of his March 10 sentencing, a court document filed by Fleming’s federal public defender says.
Fleming was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2021, but he was sent to state prison to serve his unrelated sentence “before a plea agreement was reached” in the federal drug case, U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser said.
