Missouri man arrested in connection with fatal shooting near downtown

Missouri police have arrested a 27-year-old man on suspicion of murder after a Wichita man was found shot to death near downtown Monday morning.

Just after 8 a.m. on Monday, Wichita police found a man in the 900 block of East Indianapolis suffering form several gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene, and his name has not yet been announced by authorities.

For much of the day, the area was blocked off as investigators canvased the area to find evidence. K-9 Mantra found multiple shell cases during the search which were used — in addition to other departmental resources — to identify a suspect, a press release from the Police Department read.

On Monday evening, after issuing an arrest warrant, police in Springfield, Missouri, took a 27-year-old man into custody on suspicion of first degree murder. The Eagle does not name arrestees until after they’ve been formally charged.
