WPD investigate after man found shot to death early Monday morning
Wichita residents are being asked to avoid the 900 block of East Indianapolis after a man was found shot to death Monday morning.
Wichita Police Public Information Officer Kris Gupilan said the man was discovered by officers just after 8 a.m. on Monday morning after a 911 caller requested a welfare check for a downed man.
When police arrived, they found that the adult man was suffering from several apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“This is an active and ongoing investigation and we are still in the early stages of this investigation,” Gupilan said. “Detectives are currently working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, are following up on leads to identify what exactly happened prior to the shooting.”
Gupilan confirmed that the shooting happened sometime Monday morning, but investigators are still gathering and collecting evidence. Police have already spoken with some nearby businesses, Gupilan said, in search of surveillance video and other useful information.
The 900 East Indianapolis area, which is two blocks south of Kellogg at Washington, will continue to be blocked off “for quite some time,” Gupilan said, as investigators search for clues, cameras that may have captured the crime and witnesses.
“We’re asking the community to please avoid the area and if this is part of the normal route, make the prior arrangements prior to coming out here,” Gupilan said.
Gupilan encouraged anyone with information to call Wichita detectives at 316-268-4407 or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
