Reward for information in Dr. Glen Dey Park shooting doubled
Nearly three weeks after 32-year-old Travon Stewart was shot and killed at a north Wichita park, Crime Stoppers has doubled the reward to $10,000 to encourage new information and generate fresh leads in the case.
Stewart, a youth football coach, was selling concessions at Dr. Glen Dey Park just after 7 p.m. on Oct. 23 when he was shot several times. More than 200 people were estimated to be at the park for football games at the time of the shooting.
Law enforcement determined the attack was targeted, but in the weeks since the shooting have been unable to identify a suspect.
Stewart was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries. In the days following his death, the Wichita Police Department said it received only three tips, and nothing substantial so far. That incentivized members of the Crime Stoppers Committee to vote to increase the existing $5,000 reward to $10,000.
“We hope that by increasing the reward, someone with knowledge about this case will come forward and help bring closure to the victim’s family,” Sharon Van Horn, executive director of the Wichita Metro Crime Commission, said in a press release announcing the reward increase.
Information provided to Crime Stoppers must lead to a felony arrest in order for tipsters to receive a cash reward of up to $10,000. Tips can be submitted by calling 316-267-2111 or by downloading the P3 tips app and can be left anonymously. More reward guidelines can be found on the Crime Stoppers website.
