Wichita police make arrest in shooting that hurt man on south Broadway

Police arrested a 39-year-old man in connection with a shooting early Monday near a gas station in south Wichita.

The shooting left a 33-year-old man with serious injuries, Wichita police said in a news release.

Officers responded to a report about the shooting around 3:30 a.m. in the 2100 block of South Broadway, near Kinkaid.

“When officers arrived, they located a 33-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported by EMS to a local hospital in serious condition,” the news release said.

“As the investigation continued into the morning, officers later located the suspect in the 4500 block of South Broadway. The man attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended. He was found to be in possession of a firearm and was transported to the Investigations (Unit) for questioning.”

Police say the 39-year-old man was booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of aggravated battery, felony obstruction and being a felon in possession of a weapon. The department plans to present the case to the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office, which will decide whether to file formal charges.
