Child arrested in Wichita after voicemail causes brief shutdown at Kansas airport
A child was arrested Friday in Wichita for a bomb threat that briefly closed down the Hutchinson Regional Airport, according to the Hutchinson police.
The child was arrested on suspicion of aggravated criminal threat after leaving a voicemail at the airport around 11 p.m. on Thursday indicating “a bomb had been attached to an airplane at the airport,” police said Friday night in a news release. The voice was “consistent with that of a juvenile male,” police said.
Police contacted the child and his parents in Wichita and brought the child back to the Reno County Youth Shelter.
Hutchinson police were called to investigate around 8:15 a.m. Airport officials closed the airport during that time and reopened shortly after police gave the all clear at 10 a.m.
“Resources examined all planes and buildings at the airport, and nothing was located to substantiate the threat,” Hutchinson police Capt. Dustin Loepp said in a Friday email.
