Man went to fire station for help Sunday after shooting in south Wichita, police say

A 62-year-old man was shot in the leg during a fight in the 1300 block of south Topeka, near Lincoln.

Wichita police say a 43-year-old man fired the shot during an argument over property.

The 62-year-old walked to the nearby Wichita Fire Station No. 2 for help around 8:40 a.m. Sunday while the shooter tried to flee on a bicycle, according to a police news release. The Kansas Fallen Firefighters Memorial Park, formerly Lincoln Park, is in that area.

“He was taken into custody without incident and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail,” the news release says of the suspected shooter.

The 62-year-old man was taken to a hospital with serious injuries and is expected to survive, police said.

“This is another incident where someone chose violence to resolve a temporary conflict,” the police news release says.

Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Wichita police investigators at 316-268-4407 or submit an anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
