A Wichita man has been charged in the stabbing death of a 64-year-old woman, the city’s fourth death as a result of gun or knife violence over the Labor Day weekend.

Just before 9 a.m. Saturday, police responded to a call that 24-year-old Isaiah Langkiet had stabbed 64-year-old Elvira Langkiet. She was taken to a hospital but later died, Wichita police confirmed on Thursday.

Isaiah Langkiet was initially arrested and accused of attempted murder, but now has been charged with first-degree murder.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 15.

Court records show he pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and criminal threat in 2019.
