Man hit by semi, dies after altercation at Love’s, Wichita police say
A 57-year-old Georgia man was killed after being hit by a semi-truck at Love’s Travel Stop in north Wichita, police spokesperson Andrew Ford said Thursday afternoon.
Abdelmuttalib Mohammed died at the scene. He was found under a truck, Ford said. He had been in a “verbal altercation” with the driver of the semi, police said.
A 46-year-old Jenks, Oklahoma, man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder unintentional but reckless, arrest records show. He remained jailed Thursday afternoon.
The Wichita Eagle does not identify suspects until they are charged.
Police were called at 5:22 p.m. to Love’s Travel Stop at 21st and Cleveland. Mohammed was pronounced deceased 10 minutes later.
“Investigators with the Wichita Police Department determined Mr. Mohammed had been in a verbal altercation with the 46-year-old suspect he did not know,” Ford said in a news release. “During the altercation, the suspect began backing into a parking stall with his semitractor-trailer striking Mr. Mohammed.”
