Two pedestrians killed in separate Wichita incidents; arrests made

Two pedestrians died in separate incidents involving vehicles Wednesday night in Wichita, officials said.

One victim was a minor; another was a man, according to Sedgwick County Emergency Communications scanner traffic. Arrests were made in both cases.

Police are expected to release more details later today.

The first happened at 5:22 p.m. at Love’s Travel Stop at 21st and Cleveland. It was reported as a “man run over by a car,” according to scanner traffic. The person died at the scene. A 46-year-old Jenks, Oklahoma, man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder unintentional but reckless, arrest records show. He remained in Sedgwick County Jail late Thursday morning after being booked at 11:11 p.m. on Wednesday, records show.

The Wichita Eagle does not identify suspects until they are charged.

The second case happened at 6:31 p.m. at Harry and Rock. Initial reports were that there was a “minor under” a vehicle and two suspects running east on Harry. The victim died at the scene.

One person was arrested at Paige and Harry, which is the next street east of the intersection, according to scanner reports. Officers also were chasing a second suspect.
