  • Judge sentenced Christopher McAhren to 100 years for child sex crimes.
  • McAhren pled guilty to four charges involving sexual abuse and pornography.
  • Two co-defendants await sentencing in connection with the same case.

A Harvey County man has been ordered to serve at least 100 years in prison for sexually abusing and creating pornographic material of a young child that he shared over the internet.

Christopher M. McAhren, 32, of Newton, was sentenced July 25 by Harvey County District Judge Michael Llamas.

The victim was younger than 8 years old at the time of the crimes, according to a Wednesday news release from Harvey County Attorney Heather Figger.

“McAhren stole the victim’s innocence, documented his offenses through images, involved others, and shared those images,” Figger told the court, according to the release.

“When his crimes were uncovered, he fled the state,” Figger said.

She urged the judge to impose the maximum sentence allowed under state law.

The release says the judge agreed and found McAhren “to be a danger to the community.” The judge also commented that McAhren’s “actions were unconscionable,” according to the release.

Llamas handed down four consecutive life sentences, each with no parole eligibility for 25 years, and then ordered the life terms be served back to back.

One-hundred years is the minimum amount of time McAhren is required to serve before he could be released from prison, unless his case is overturned on appeal.

“If ever released, McAhren would be subject to lifetime parole supervision with electronic monitoring, and sex offender registration,” the news release says.

McAhren pleaded guilty on April 24 to four child sex crimes: aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties with a child, rape of a child younger than 14 and aggravated internet trading in child pornography. Court records say he committed the crimes between February and December 2024. Prosecutors agreed to dismiss two other counts — aggravated criminal sodomy and sexual exploitation of a child — in exchange for his guilty plea.

Two other people are charged in the case:

Veronica S. Darby is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 22 after pleading guilty on July 18 to two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy and one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Cameron Durham is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 11 after pleading guilty on July 7 to one count of sexual exploitation of a child. He also pleaded guilty to one count of violation of a protection order in a separate case, court records show.
