Wichita police arrest suspect in 27th Street shooting

A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a shooting over the weekend that left a man in the hospital, Wichita police said Monday.

The suspect was arrested shortly after midnight Sunday in the 3600 block of East 10th Street, Lt. James Espinoza said.

The arrest came after a 23-year-old man was shot in the abdomen about 4:15 a.m. Saturday while he was walking east on 27th Street near Hillside, Espinoza said. Police information issued Saturday said the man was shot in the back.

The victim, who knew the suspect, is expected to survive, Espinoza said.

Espinoza declined to say what prompted the shooting, though he noted it wasn’t gang related.

On Saturday, police said the victim had been talking to the suspect about $3,000 that he said the suspect owed him.
