Three people are dead and one is in critical condition following two separate shootings in Wichita.
The first shooting was reported at 3:27 p.m. near the 1400 block of North Lorraine, a Sedgwick County emergency dispatcher said. That’s near 13th and Hillside.
The second shooting happened shortly after 5 p.m. in the 2600 block of North Minnesota, near 25th and Grove. Two people died in that shooting, and one was taken in critical condition to a local hospital.
On Monday afternoon, Wichita police also had a portion of Hillside from 13th to 14th blocked off to traffic as they investigated the first shooting.
“We are still early in the investigation,” Capt. Jeff Weible of the Wichita Police Department told local media at the scene of the shooting. “When officers responded to a call of shots fired in the area of 14th and Hillside, as they were getting into the area, they found one gentleman down on the ground who appeared to be suffering from a gunshot wound.”
But as emergency medical services crews arrived, the man died.
No information on a suspect has been released.
“We are still talking to people and trying to gather as much information as we can. Obviously we are still going through the area of the crime scene,” Weible said.
At the second shooting, Wichita police Sgt. Joe Springob said officers were sent to a residence after a person called 911 and reported there had been a possible shooting in the 2600 block of North Minnesota.
“They found three individuals who were injured; two were pronounced deceased here at the scene; another has been transported to a local facility for treatment,” Springob said. “Right now, we have investigators on the scene, and we are in the very early stages of the investigation.”
Springob told local media he did not have any information as to whether the two shootings were connected.
