Prison sentence imposed in Wichita crash that killed two after shooting, chase

A 21-year-old Wichita man has been ordered to serve more than 39 years in prison across three criminal cases — including one where he and others chased and fired shots at a car, resulting in a wreck that killed two people in 2022.

Amill Williams, 21, and Alonzo Montgomery, 20, died on Feb. 21, 2022, after the 2005 Ford Five Hundred they were in veered into oncoming traffic and crashed into a tree at 83 mph, a probable cause affidavit says. A woman riding with them was flung from the car but survived.

Tre’breh Deshane Jones was among a group of then-teenagers charged as adults with chasing and shooting at them. He pleaded guilty in October to two counts of voluntary manslaughter and one count each of criminal discharge of a firearm and criminal possession of a weapon by a convicted felon in connection with the pursuit and deaths.

He also pleaded guilty to possessing a weapon as a convicted felon and possessing a controlled substance with the intent to distribute it in the other cases, court records show.

Judge Jeffrey Goering sentenced Jones on Thursday to 30 years and four months in prison for the deadly wreck, plus an additional 8 years and 10 months in the other two cases, Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office spokesman Dan Dillon said by email.

The total time he will serve is 39 years, two months.

The other men involved in the shooting and chase are Elijah Sullivan, James Lowe Jr. and Javion Wimbley. Sullivan, 21, and Wimbley, 19, are also serving lengthy prison sentences after pleading guilty to voluntary manslaughter and other charges.

Lowe, 22, pleaded guilty on Thursday to several crimes, including voluntary manslaughter, and will be sentenced next month, court records show.

The affidavit says Jones and the others started chasing and fired shots at the Ford car after it visited a southeast Wichita apartment. According to the affidavit, someone told the group that members of an opposing gang were in the car.

Witnesses called 911 to report shots fired in the area of Lincoln and George Washington Boulevard at around 1:30 a.m. When officers arrived they found the wrecked Ford nearby and several shell casings from four different guns, the affidavit says.

Williams and Montgomery died at the scene from multiple blunt force injuries from the collision, the affidavit says. Neither had gunshot wounds.

Both were Wichita residents.
