Police identified a man who died Saturday after a shooting at an east Wichita home as 24-year-old Demarc Burgess, police said.

The agency is looking for 18-year-old Jaden Watts in connection with the shooting. Burgess and Watts knew each other, WPD spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan said Monday.

“Jaden is sought for questioning regarding this case and may have pertinent information,” the WPD said.

Gupilan added that WPD have encountered Watts in the past.

Police were called at 3:47 a.m. Saturday to a home in the 14000 block of East Twinlake Drive, near Kellogg and 143rd Street East, to a shooting call. Officers arrived and found Burgess with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital where he died, the Eagle reported.

Detectives learned the shooting stemmed from a disturbance between Burgess and another person during a gathering at the home, according to a WPD news release.

Police did not say what the disturbance was about, but are investigating the shooting as a homicide.

Anyone with information on Watts’ whereabouts is encouraged to call detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Inquiries into Crime Stoppers remain anonymous.
