Wichita police have recovered most of the $20,000-plus worth of band equipment and the trailer stolen from Nashville-based rock band while they slept at an east Wichita hotel after playing at The Cotillion.

No arrests have been made, police said.

Post Sex Nachos performed at The Cotillion on Thursday night. They awoke at Springhill Suites, located at 1220 N. Greenwich, Friday morning and found the trailer attached to their tour van and filled with most of their equipment gone, police said.

The U-Haul trailer contained more than $20,000 worth of music equipment and $5,000 worth of merchandise.

“While investigating an unrelated stolen vehicle report involving a Ford F-250, officers located a stolen U-Haul box truck bearing a Kansas tag. Upon further investigation, it was determined that the same U-Haul had been involved in the trailer theft. Officers cut the lock on the stolen trailer and discovered the stolen band equipment inside,” Wichita police spokesperson Andrew Ford said in a news release. “All but a Yamaha MX49 Keyboard and a cash box containing $1,300, including band merchandise such as t-shirts and other items, were successfully recovered.”

The U-Haul trailer that the band had was found as well, Ford said in an email.

He would not say where the items were found, only that the missing items were recovered on different days, including Tuesday.

Post Sex Nachos’ trip to Wichita

The band, which started a 12-city, nine-state September tour with its performance at The Cotillion, said it drove back to Wichita Monday after police found the missing gear. They found the gear in “fair condition, if a little worse for wear.”

“It has been an insane 96 hours for us, and we have been working through things we never imagined as a band or as humans,” they said in a social media post Tuesday. “Through all of it, we have felt nothing but pure and guiding love from each of you – the absolute best family, friends, and fans in the world. You have been our emotional backbone, financial support, and the inspiration that has pushed us to keep on moving. We love you more than words can describe.”

The band, which did not respond to a social media message from the Eagle, had started a GoFundMe to allow them to keep playing music. Five hundred and three people donated just over $30,000 as of noon Wednesday.

The band started an email to issue full refunds to anyone who donated. That email is PSNRefunds@gmail.com.

Turn theft into music?

The band said on social media that they might turn the whole theft and recovery into a song, someday:

“When we started this band back in 2017 in an attic (literally an attic - we’ve got photos), we never could have imagined being here now; and it’s all thanks to you wonderful people. You have our undying appreciation, and we will forever be grateful beyond words (but maybe we’ll write about it in a song some day).”

Anyone with information about the theft can call detectives at 316-268-4407. Callers can remain anonymous by submitting a tip through Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
