Police arrest 3 more teens, for total of 5, in shooting that killed 2 Wichita teens
Three more teens have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of 14-year-old Emoni Shears and 19-year-old Jhiquez Roberts on Jan. 26 in northeast Wichita.
This brings the total arrests made to five in connection with the shooting, Wichita Police Lt. Aaron Moses said.
On Tuesday, police detectives found and arrested three male teens ages 15, 16 and 17. They were arrested on two counts of felony murder, Moses said in a news release.
Police arrested a 14-year-old boy Saturday in the 2200 block of East 13th Street and 18-year-old Hayden Williams of Wichita on Monday in the 1700 block of North Old Manor, police said.
Williams’ home is near where the shooting took place in the 5200 block of East Kensington. Police have said Shears and Roberts were shot in a vehicle while meeting one of the suspects.
Shears and Roberts drove themselves to the hospital, where they died.
The 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of criminal use of a weapon. Williams faces suspicion of two counts of first-degree murder, police said.
Early in the investigation, police said Shears, Roberts and the 14-year-old suspect knew each other. Now they say the relationship between all the suspects and the two victims is unclear.
All the suspects are from Wichita with the exception of the 15-year-old teen, who is from Garden City, Moses said in an email.
“Our investigators are still actively investigating this case. As additional information is gathered, there may be more arrests,” Moses said.
Police are asking anyone with information about the shooting to call detectives at 316-268-4407, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111. Callers can remain anonymous with Crime Stoppers.
