Police identify Andover man who died after being struck by vehicle in northeast Wichita
A 71-year-old man Andover man died after he was hit at the intersection of 13th Street and Greenwich Road on Tuesday night.
Wichita Police Department spokesperson Kristopher Gupilan identified the man as Billy Wineinger.
Shortly before the fatal crash, Wineinger was involved in an accident with a Ford Explorer at the intersection. Everyone in that accident had non-life threatening injuries, Gupilan said in a news release.
Wineinger was outside of his car assessing the damage when a black Toyota 4-Runner heading east on 13th entered the intersection and struck Wineinger’s car, causing it to hit him, according to Gupilan.
Officers responded at 10:08 p.m. to a vehicle vs. pedestrian call.
Wineinger died from injuries sustained in the accident, the release said.
“Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this fatal collision,” Gupilan said.
The driver of the 4-Runner, who police did not name, is a 41-year-old woman from Wichita. She was taken into custody on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, a booking report shows.
Arrest records show Valerie Morgan Palace was arrested in connection with the fatal crash investigation. A Sedgwick County jail inmate search said Palace, 41, was booked into jail at 4:49 a.m. on Wednesday.
