Augusta police investigate killing: ‘We do not know if the suspect was known by the victim’
Police in Augusta are looking for tips about a killing they think happened between Saturday and Sunday night.
The Augusta Department of Public Safety sent out a news release Tuesday night that said they were called to an unattended death Sunday night in the 1700 block of Robbins and have determined it was a homicide.
Director Todd Ackerman did not immediately respond to a call Wednesday morning.
However, he did respond to a comment on the Facebook news release. Someone wrote Wednesday morning that it may be the “same person lurking around my house” that they caught on camera at 4 a.m. Sunday morning. They said they didn’t live far.
Ackerman replied asking for them to call the department so police could take a look at the camera.
On Wednesday night, someone asked if the killing was random or should citizens be worried.
Ackerman replied: “At this time we do not know if the suspect was known by the victim or not. It’s always advisable to lock your doors at night, leave your porch light on if possible, and even install a video type doorbell for added security. Please do not ignore suspicious noises or activity. We respond to all calls.”
Anyone with information about the killing can call the department at 316-775-4500.
Augusta is a town of less than 10,000 people about 20 miles east of Wichita.
