Wichita police are investigating after a man walked into a hospital with a gunshot wound to his head early Wednesday.

The incident was reported around 12:35 a.m. The 44-year-old man went to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said in a news release. He was driven and accompanied by two people.

The man had been shot in the 1600 block of east Fortuna Street in south Wichita after trying to break up a fight in a crowd, Rebolledo said.

“An unknown suspect produced a handgun and shot him,” Rebolledo said. Officers found multiple casings.

Police have not been able to fully determine what happened because of lack of cooperation from witnesses, the release said.

Anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call detectives at 316-268-4407 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.
