A 19-year-old Wichita man has died after a two-vehicle accident that injured eight people on Monday near downtown, police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo said Thursday.

Jonathan McPherson-Pickett did not regain consciousness after the collision, Rebolledo said in a news release.

He died Thursday.

The crash happened around 11:55 a.m. Monday near where Murdock intersects with Washington as Washington turns into Mosley.

The driver of a white Kia Sorento was headed east on Murdock when he struck a curb, lost a wheel and then went into oncoming traffic, police said. The Kia, which McPherson-Pickett was in, was then hit by a blue Ford Escape driven by a 35-year-old woman.

The driver of the Kia was speeding, police said. Rebolledo said the investigation is ongoing. He wouldn’t say if the driver was cited for anything.

Four people were in the Kia and four were in the Ford, according to a police media report. Everyone was taken to the hospital, including a 4-year-old and 6-month-old in the Ford.

Police had said Monday that no one had life-threatening injuries.

The Eagle requested a police report of the accident Wednesday but has not yet received it. A police media report says the driver of one of the vehicles was “driving recklessly.”
