Eight people were taken to the hospital after an accident Monday on Murdock near downtown Wichita.

The crash was reported around 11:55 a.m. A white vehicle heading east on Murdock struck a curb, lost a wheel and lost control, skidding into oncoming traffic, Wichita police captain Ronald Hunt said at a media briefing. It happened near where Murdock intersects with Washington as Washington turns into Mosley.

A blue vehicle was heading west on Murdock. The two vehicles collided. The white vehicle overturned into an empty lot and the blue vehicle came to rest in the middle of the road, Hunt said.

Each vehicle had four occupants, with one having a 4-year-old and 6-month-old child inside. All eight people were taken to nearby hospitals, according to Hunt.

None of the victims sustained critical or life-threatening injuries, Hunt added.

“We’re very lucky in regards to that,” Hunt said of the injuries.

Detectives are working to learn what led to the accident. A portion of Murdock from the intersection to the railroad tracks at Santa Fe will be closed off for the next hour to two hours.
