Wichita police identify three people who died from suspected fentanyl poisoning

Wichita police identified two more people who died from a possible fentanyl poisoning Sunday morning, police spokesman Chad Ditch said in a news release.

A man and woman were initially found dead at an encampment around 8:35 a.m. in the 2900 block of S. Washington. Police identified them as 20-year-old Stevie Metts and 35-year-old Brandon Randall, both from Wichita, according to Ditch.

Two other people, a man and woman, found nearby were taken to the hospital. That man, 31-year-old Cody Maxey of Wichita, died at the hospital. A 41-year-old woman remains in critical condition, Ditch said.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call investigators at 316-268-4407 and Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111.

“The Wichita Police Department wants to continue reminding the community to only take prescription pills given to you by a doctor,” the release said.
