Man, 19, sentenced to over 10 years in rape, robbery of 76-year-old
A Wichita man is going to prison for his role in the rape and robbery of a 76-year-old woman last summer.
Sedgwick County District Court Judge Ben Burgess on Thursday sentenced 19-year-old John Thompson Jr. to a total of 10 years and nine months’ imprisonment for aggravated robbery, attempted kidnapping and aggravated burglary, said Dan Dillon, spokesman for the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office.
Thompson also was ordered to pay $3,750 in restitution, Dillon said. He pleaded guilty to the charges in July.
Thompson is one of two teens convicted of breaking into the woman’s house near Lincoln and George Washington Boulevard on June 7, 2013, and stealing flat-screen televisions, jewelry and $3 in cash. The woman was sexually assaulted at gunpoint during the invasion.
Marquatesz Redmon, 18, last week was convicted of the rape and six other felony crimes at trial. He is scheduled for sentencing Nov. 13.
