Wichita police identify man killed in Friday’s apartment shooting; no arrests yet
Wichita police have identified the man killed Friday in a shooting at an apartment complex as 21-year-old Desabian Williams of Wichita.
Two other men who were hurt in the shooting remained in the hospital Monday. The shooter is still at large, Officer Trevor Macy said.
Police have asked the public to turn over any information they have about the crime. Tips can be submitted to Wichita police detectives at 316-268-4407, to Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111 or to the See Something, Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282.
Crime Stoppers tipsters can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a $2,500 cash reward if their information leads to an arrest.
Police in a Monday morning news release said officers were sent to the 600 block of South Eastern around 4 p.m. on Friday after several people called 911 about gunfire at the complex, near Kellogg and Rock. When officers arrived, they found Williams dead inside one of the buildings, as well as an “extensive crime scene” with several firearms and other unspecified “evidentiary items,” the news release says.
Witnesses told police other people had also been shot. One went to a restaurant in the 100 block of South Rock Road, and the other showed up at a nearby hospital, according to the release. Police are still investigating exactly how they were involved and what led up to the violence, the release says.
The motive also remains under investigation, Macy said.
