Pedestrian killed in hit and run in north Wichita, officials say

Police think a dark-colored Chevrolet Tahoe was involved in a hit and run that killed a 56-year-old Wichita man Wednesday night in north Wichita.

The SUV probably has front end damage, Wichita police Capt. Brent Allred said.

Harold Long was walking across Arkansas, near 27th, from east to west when he was hit by a vehicle traveling south on Arkansas, Allred said. Police were called at around 8:50 p.m. Long was found unresponsive in the street and died at the scene, police said.

Allred said it’s the 21st traffic-related fatality this year, including 10 since July 4. Eight of the fatalities have involved motorcycles.

Speed has been a factor in more than half of the wrecks and alcohol was the second-highest factor, Allred said.

Anyone with information about the case can call the accident follow-up section at 316-350-3672, the See Something Say Something hotline at 316-519-2282 or Crime Stoppers at 316-267-2111

Hit and runs also hospitalized a bicyclist early on Wednesday morning and a pedestrian on Monday night.
