Man arrested in Monday homicide near Kellogg and Rock charged with murder
Prosecutors on Friday filed charges of second-degree intentional murder and criminal possession of a weapon against a 25-year-old man arrested in connection with Monday’s homicide near Kellogg and Rock Road.
Police arrested Donovan Michael Harrington during a traffic stop on Tuesday, a day after 27-year-old Miguel Tapia was found shot and lying outside of an empty SUV in the 600 block of South Armour Drive.
Police have said Harrington, Tapia and two women were in the SUV when a fight broke out. Harrington allegedly pulled a gun and fired at Tapia then ran away with the women and flagged down a driver in a teal Ford F-150 for a ride.
Tapia died from the gunshot wounds after he was taken to a Wichita hospital.
Police this week would not say what the fight was about.
Harrington, who is on parole for other crimes, made a first appearance in Sedgwick County District Court on Friday afternoon. A judge advised him of the charges and set his bond at $200,000, court records show.
Harrington remained in the Sedgwick County Jail on Friday and is due in court again on Sept. 3. His court-appointed lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
