Charges moved from juvenile to adult court in 2019 drug killing

A Wichita man originally charged with murder and robbery in juvenile court in connection with a homicide last summer is now being prosecuted as an adult.

Tairyce Ateviann Jones was 17 years old when Jerome Armbeck, 33, was shot to death over drugs and his body was found in an open field in the 4600 block of East Boston on Aug. 19, 2019.

Jones, who is now 18, was initially charged as a juvenile last August, records show. But last week, he waived a hearing where he could have argued against a prosecution request to treat him as an adult in the case.

Court records show Jones will face the same charges — first-degree felony murder and aggravated robbery — as an adult. But if he is convicted, his sentence would likely be longer.

Jones made a first appearance in adult court Wednesday afternoon and remains in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond. His next court date is Sept. 3.

Pierce Andre Jackson, 20, and Marcus L. Lamar, 21, are also charged with first-degree felony murder and aggravated robbery charges in Ambeck’s death. They are due in court again on Sept. 23, according to court records.
