Witnesses told police a Wichita man now charged with attempted murder said “He is done, I shot him in the head” after allegedly opening fire on his cousin last month.

According to an arrest affidavit released Tuesday, 30-year-old Terrell Jovan Parker reportedly went to his cousin’s home near Harry and Oliver on July 22 and shot him in the face following a heroin binge.

It’s unclear from the affidavit exactly why Parker reportedly opened fire. He denied doing it in a police interview. His defense attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

But witnesses told authorities the men had argued over the phone about missing drug money and property before Parker got a car ride to his cousin’s house “to talk it out” early on July 22.

One witness told police the cousin told Parker to “come over and catch these hands” during the phone fight.

When Parker arrived at the house, he greeted his cousin and helped him look for “something in the grass” outside.

Witnesses then reported hearing a “pow pow” sound before Parker got back into the car to leave.

One witness who talked to police described Parker’s demeanor as “panic mode” after the shooting.

Another told authorities he sounded menacing when he spoke.

Referring to his cousin, Parker told the people in the car: “He is done, I shot him in the head,” the affidavit says.

Police have previously said they responded to a call about the shooting around 2:40 a.m. on July 22.

According to the affidavit, the cousin identified Parker in a photo line up police showed him in the hospital, saying: “That’s him; that’s the (expletive) that shot me in the face; that’s my cousin.”

The bullet traveled through the cousin’s left cheek to the back of his skull, where it fractured a vertebrae.

The cousin told police Parker went to his house, “took his forty dollars” and as the cousin turned to leave, he “heard a boom” and his “ears started ringing.”

The cousin said he fell backward and saw Parker “standing over him” before Parker “walked off to a car.”

The cousin told police Parker was high on heroin at the time.

The affidavit says state parole authorities arrested Parker at his mother’s house on July 24 and took him to Wichita City Hall for a police interview.

In the interview, Parker denied going to his cousin’s home and shooting him and claimed a different cousin was “trying to set him up,” the affidavit says.

He told police he “has never had any problems” with his cousin who was shot and blamed the cousin he accused of the set-up of carrying out the shooting.

Parker, who also uses the names “Denero” and “Rello,” is a documented member of the Folk criminal street gang and has a prior conviction for possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute it, according to the affidavit and Kansas Department of Corrections records. He also has prior convictions for assault, aggravated battery and aggravated escape from custody, among other crimes, records show.

Parker was on parole when the shooting occurred and remains in the Sedgwick County Jail in lieu of $250,000 bond.

Currently, he is charged with first-degree attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon by a felon. His next court date is Sept. 9.
