Wichitan stabbed family member to death in argument after house party, police say

A Wichita man is accused of stabbing a family member to death during an argument after a house party ended early Sunday morning, police said.

Wichita police arrested David Staley, 57, on suspicion of second-degree murder, Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. Staley is suspected of killing his nephew, 34-year-old Ryan Speight.

Officers were first called at around 3 a.m. to a cutting at a home in the 2300 block of South Pinecrest, near Oliver and Pawnee. They found Staley and Speight, who had a stab wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined there had been a party at the home, but attendees left before an argument ensued between Staley and Speight. Both of the men lived there. Police said the uncle stabbed the nephew during the fight, causing his fatal injuries.
