Robbers wearing surgical masks hit Valley Center gas station, stealing cash and drink

Two robbers wearing surgical masks stole cash and a drink from a Valley Center gas station late Saturday night.

The robbers — one of whom had a gun — hit the Kwik Shop at Fifth and Meridian at around 11:30 p.m., the Valley Center Department of Public Safety said in a Facebook post. They were seen running to the southeast, and a Sedgwick County sheriff’s K-9 tracked them to the area of Main and Dexter, but they were not caught.

The convenience store’s loss was less than $100 plus a bottled beverage.

Both robbers were described as Hispanic men in their early to mid 20s with slender builds and about 6 feet tall. One wore a gray T-shirt and jeans, and he had a black handgun in his waistband. The other wore a black T-shirt. Both had surgical masks covering their faces.

Police plan to release photos from security cameras once they are available. Anyone with information on the identities of the robbers is asked to call Valley Center police.
