12-year-old girl screamed and ran to grandma’s house after Wichita kidnapping attempt

A Wichita man allegedly tried to kidnap a child as she walked alone Saturday afternoon, police said.

Officers were called at around 3:50 p.m. to a home in the 2500 block of South Roosevelt for an attempted abduction report, Wichita police spokesman Officer Charley Davidson said in a news release. That’s near Pawnee and Hillside in southeast Wichita.

Police found a 28-year-old mother and her 12-year-old daughter. Investigators determined the girl was walking alone in the area of 31st South and Clifton, which is a few blocks west of Planeview Park. A man went up to her and “said she was coming with him,” then “grabbed her arm and started to pull,” Davidson said.

The girl screamed and was able to pull away before running to her grandma’s house. The girl then told her mom, and they called police.

The girl described the suspect, and officers found him in the 2900 block of South Hillside, where he was arrested without further incident. He was arrested on suspicion of attempted kidnapping and possessing methamphetamine.

Wichita police identified the suspect as 28-year-old Victor Lara-Aguilera, but Sedgwick County Jail booking reports identify him as Victor Manuel Lara-Aguilar.
